How do I create a custom Home Page?

The customizable Home Page on our advanced web builder gives you more control over your beehiiv home page’s design!

 

Here’s how to create a beautiful custom Home Page:

1. Go to Settings → Website → Pages → then click “Customize Home Page”

You can also access all customizable pages directly from the Design Lab

 

  1. This takes you to the Design Lab where you can see all of the Home Page sections you can customize (with a live preview).

Here, you can customize the Home Page sections for:

  • Theme 
    • Overall color scheme and design elements, including theme, header type, fonts, header content, and more
  • Featured Posts
    • Select posts you’d like to feature, label this section, choose whether you’d like to display latest posts, and more
  • Widgets
    • Add other widgets to be displayed on your Home Page, like author page, recommendations, categories, social, and more
  • Cards 
    • Customize the way your posts cards are displayed, including colors for various elements, borders, radius, font, shadows and more

 

Here’s what you can customize under the Themes Section:

  • Start by choosing your Theme
    • A starting place for inspiration on color combinations; you can always customize all of the colors within any theme
  • Choose your header type
    •  Default
      • This is the most customizable option with additional elements that can be edited such as:
        • Background Image
        • Content container (a border and background for your signup widget)
        • Logo display
        • Headline
        • Description
    • Headliner
      • Fewer customization options than the “Default” option, but it still allows you to customize your posts, featured section, and add widgets
    • News
      • Fewer customization options than the “Default” option, but it still allows you to customize your posts, featured section, and add widgets
  • Choose your font
    • This will automatically be applied to all text on your Home Page. You can still customize certain text in other sections below that will override these global settings.
  • Choose your colors

    • Background Color (applied to the blank space behind your posts)
    • Text color (applied to all text on the page–can be overridden for specific text elements)
    • Accent Color (applied to labels in the featured posts + widgets section of the page)
    • Border Color (applied to borders in the widgets section + news/headliner headers)

 

If you selected the “Default” theme, here are additional items you can customize under Themes:

  1. Default Header
    • Upload a background image
    • Set the opacity (adds a gloss effect to your image)
    • Add a color for the opacity gloss effect
  2. Content Container
    • Choose a background color for the content container block (encircles the subscribe form)
    • Choose a border color
    • Choose your padding (the space between your sign up form and the content container border)
    • Choose your radius (determines how round or rectangular the corners are)
    • Choose your border width
    • Choose your border sides
  3.  Logo
    • Choose whether you want your logo displayed
    • Choose the size of the logo
    • Choose the shadow size
  4. Headline text (appears above the subscribe form)
    • Choose the text color for your headline
    • Enter your headline text 
    • Choose your font (this will override the Theme font setting)
    • Choose the text size
  5. Description (appears below the headline text)
    • Choose the text color for your headline
    • Enter your headline text 
    • Choose your font (will override the Theme font setting)
    • Choose the text size

 

For all of the headline options, you can customize the following under the Themes section:

  • Sign-up Widget
    • Choose your background color (applied to the “Subscribe” CTA button)
    • Choose your text color (applied to the text in the button)
    • Choose your font (this will override the theme font setting)
    • Enter the text that will appear on the button
    • Choose the placeholder text (this appears in the box where subscriber input their email)

 

Here’s what you can customize under the Featured Posts Section:

  • Enter a title for the featured posts section
  • Choose which of your posts you’d like to display in this section
    • You can remove them using the delete icon and clicking the check mark
  • You can also toggle on or off the display of your latest post (this will pull in your 3 most recent posts)
  • You can also choose any category sections to be displayed on the Home Page below the latest post and featured post sections

 

Here’s what you can customize under the Widgets Section:

  • You can select as many of the widget options you’d like to be displayed on your Home Page
    • Recommendations
    • Authors
    • Social
    • Categories
    • Sign-up

 

Here’s what you can customize under the Cards Section:

  • You can customize the following text and design element colors

    • Background color (applied to the body of the post cards)
    • Border color (applied to the border of the post cards)
    • Text color (applied to the title of the post)
    • Hover text color (applied when users hover over title)
    • Premium text color
    • Timestamps & author text color 
    • Tags background color (this is applied to the content tags block)
    • Tags text color (this is applied to the content tags text)
    • Shadow size (shadow displayed on page)
    • Hover shadow size (shadow displayed when users hover over card)
    • Hover underline 
    • Border radius (determines how curved or rectangular the border is)
    • Font family

 

FAQ

 

Can I set the same themes for all of my web pages?

You can customize most elements of all of your pages to have similar color schemes, fonts, and elements. You cannot set one global theme currently, however, to be automatically applied to all of your web pages.

 

Can I save templates to share with other users and/or replicate easily in my other publications?

Not at this time. 

 

Can I undo any changes?

Not currently, but you can change any element’s settings at any time and keep a note of your settings and colors.

 

Can I reset and start from scratch?

You cannot reset, but you can customize all elements at any time.
